Every year, the Pontiac Regional Chamber of Commerce takes the time to acknowledge the extraordinary contributions made by individuals dedicated to the city’s success and well-being. This year, the Chamber has introduced a new accolade—the Spirit of Pontiac award—to celebrate community members who go above and beyond in fostering local growth and positive change. The inaugural recipient of this distinguished award is Rosana G. Hull, a leader at General Motors (GM) and a dedicated advocate for the Pontiac community.

Rosana Hull: Championing Pontiac’s Growth Through Leadership and Innovation

Hull’s tireless efforts as GM’s Manager for the Pontiac Engineering Center and her involvement in local community relations have been transformative for the city. She has overseen a variety of initiatives aimed at enriching education, youth development, and community engagement, reflecting both her dedication and GM’s commitment to the region.

One of her notable achievements includes securing annual $100,000 GM community impact grants, which support impactful programs like Pontiac READS!, the Center for Success, and the Kids First Initiative. These programs play vital roles in literacy and youth empowerment, helping students in Pontiac and the surrounding area grow and thrive.

Hull has also been at the forefront of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) education in Pontiac schools. Under her leadership, GM has sponsored the SAE International “A World in Motion” program, which brings STEM learning to elementary and middle school students in the Pontiac School District. More than 700 students have benefitted from this program, with the help of GM volunteers, who’ve been actively engaged since 2012.

Preparing the Next Generation of Engineers

One of Hull’s most impactful projects has been the Pontiac Schools’ Summer Internship Program, launched in 2018. This program provides students from Pontiac High School and the International Technology Academy with valuable opportunities to intern as pre-engineering students at GM’s Pontiac Engineering Center. Several of these students have secured full-time roles at GM, showcasing Hull’s commitment to nurturing the next generation of engineering talent.

GM Cares: Driving Community Volunteerism

Rosana Hull is also the driving force behind GM Cares, an initiative that saw GM volunteers dedicate more than 10,000 hours to the City of Pontiac in 2022. These efforts included park clean-ups, cultivating community gardens at MICAH 6 and ReRoot Pontiac, and supporting after-school programs at the Baldwin Community Center. Hull’s initiative extended even further with the Mittens for Detroit program, distributing more than 4,000 mittens and gloves to children in Pontiac over the past two years.

A True Spirit of Pontiac

Hull’s influence reaches beyond her official role at GM. She is a founding board member of the GM Modern Housing Neighborhood Association, a group that preserves and honors GM’s historical role in the community. She’s also involved in several other local initiatives, including the Pontiac Transportation Museum task force, further showcasing her dedication to Pontiac’s future.

When asked about receiving the Spirit of Pontiac award, Hull expressed her heartfelt gratitude:

“I’m very touched and very honored. I’ve been doing this for almost 10 years in this Pontiac community. What I’ve learned is that awards like this are a validation and recognition that the work we’re doing is hitting the mark. It’s so meaningful.”

Hull’s reaction highlights her deep connection to Pontiac and her desire to continue making a difference. As she said, “I sleep better knowing I’ve made a difference in the lives of others.”

The Prosperity Pontiac Gala

Hull will receive the Spirit of Pontiac award at the Pontiac Regional Chamber of Commerce’s annual Prosperity Pontiac gala. The event will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 29, at the CenterPoint Marriott in Pontiac. This gala serves as a celebration of community leaders, organizations, and their collective efforts to promote economic growth and prosperity in Pontiac.

The Spirit of Pontiac award shines a well-deserved light on individuals like Rosana Hull, whose commitment and passion continue to leave a lasting impact on the city and its people. Through Hull’s leadership, GM has not only cemented its role as a leading business in Pontiac but also as a true partner in the community’s continued growth and development.
